The Cruise Night has been suspended until further notice.
Starting in 2010, the Burlington Mall became the new host of our Cruise Night. The Mall is located at the intersection of Fairview Street and Guelph Line in Burlington, Ontario. The cruise is located at the south west corner adjacent to Zellers & Kelsey’s. This year our Lions Cruise Night season will kick-off on Wednesday, May 11th and run 18 weeks through to Wednesday, September 7th.
Originally organized by the Burlington Central Lions Club in 1991, the Club joined forces with the Burlington Nelson Lions Club in 2007 to form the Burlington Lions Club. Now with 86 years of service to the Burlington community, the Club continues its ongoing support of one of Canada's most popular Cruise Nights. This event is also made possible through the support of the Burlington Mall and its merchants. A primary feature of the Lions Cruise Night is the weekly awarding of sponsor prizes for participating vehicle owners.
This year we will also be providing two separate parking areas, one for vehicles 1979 and older and a second one for cars 1980 and newer.
On May 18th the Hamilton Chapter of the Studebaker Drivers Club will be featured with a presentation of Studebakers including Hawks, Larks & Avantis. This will be a great opportunity to see these unique cars, including some that were originally manufactured locally in the Studebaker Canada Hamilton plant.
Cruise Nationals is an integral feature of the annual Canadian International AutoShow, sponsored by the Toronto Automobile Dealers Association. Their Regional Judging will take place at our Cruise Wednesday July 6th, with a rain date set for July 13th.
Approximately 12 members of the Burlington Lions Club, attired in their purple shirts and caps, capably handle all the traffic control and 50/50 draw sales every Wednesday evening during the summer season. The Lions Cruise Night commences at 6:00 PM every Wednesday and concludes at 9:00 PM. Please note that due to its great popularity, all of the available spots are often filled by 6:15 PM. Drivers will not be able to enter prior to 4:30 P.M. this year as the area is occupied by the Burlington Mall Farmers' Market until that time.
It is not unusual to find upwards of 1000 spectators coming out to rekindle memories and listen to music and patter. There is no admission charge for either participants or spectators.
Proceeds from the weekly 50/50 draw help many worth while projects. These include Youth Minor sports, the Burlington Seniors Centre, Joseph Brant Hospital, Dog Guides Canada, and multiple camps and organizations that support diabetes, cancer, deaf and blind treatment and dialysis facilities among others.
Please join us for our 2011 annual Cruise and have some fun with your ‘special’ car, make new friends, greet old ones and help us serve our community.
